Most enterprises can’t do this because the necessary data is scattered across systems that can’t be queried quickly enough.
Where enterprise data architecture breaks down
Data architectures originally built for marketing and support were tuned for structured data and batch workflows, not the dynamic memory that natural conversation demands. Three core limitations keep these systems from supporting conversational AI:
Latency breaks the conversational contract. When customer data resides in one platform and conversations occur in another, every interaction triggers API calls that add 200–500 milliseconds of delay, turning fluid dialogue into stilted, robotic exchanges.

Organizations that treat this as a mere integration project will fall behind competitors that recognize conversational memory as core infrastructure. When memory is native to the platform that powers every customer interaction, context follows customers across channels, latency fades, and continuous, end-to-end journeys become operationally practical.
The enterprises pulling ahead aren't necessarily those with the flashiest AI models. They’re the ones that solved the infrastructure challenge first, understanding that agentic AI can’t fulfill its promise without a new class of customer data, purpose-built for the speed, nuance, and continuity that conversational experiences require.
