Over the past few years, I’ve been to numerous AI conferences and training sessions. I’ve watched some people do truly innovative work, but I’ve also seen many others just spin their wheels. Working directly with AI automation across several businesses, I’ve experienced both sides myself. That’s why I want to share what I’ve learned, so you can avoid wasting time, effort, and budget — and instead apply AI strategically to grow revenue and cut costs.
Many AI initiatives fail to deliver meaningful value. Far too often, I see entrepreneurs trying to reinvent the wheel with AI. I’ve lost track of how many people proudly talk about building an AI-powered CRM, even though there are already hundreds of robust CRM platforms on the market. It’s hard to justify creating a brand-new CRM when existing tools already cover almost every feature you need — and have dedicated teams constantly improving and maintaining them.
The same pattern shows up with apps and software that are essentially copies of tools that already exist. I’ve fallen into that trap myself. But the truth is, the world doesn’t need yet another version of a product that’s already been built dozens or hundreds of times.
There are, however, a few exceptional situations where building your own app or platform is justified — usually when you can ship it quickly and it delivers a proprietary edge.
